After I do little doodles in the margins of Rick’s script (see yesterday’s post), I draw roughs/thumbnails. Four to a page on standard print paper, with per-printed guides.
This is where I figure out word balloon placement, shadows, overall page composition, color ideas if I have any, etc. I pencil it in, then ink it, trying not to get into any detail so I don’t spend toooo much time with it.
Lots of other people figure it out on the actual full size page, that works too. I’m just more of an obsessive planner. You do whatever works for you.

Saga: Compendium One is out now.
It contains all 54 issues so far of what I consider to be the best comic book of all time. Go get it and thank me later.
If it’s any indication of how much I love Saga, I’ll tell you something. I own every single issue, and have been on board since it launched. I own both hardback collections AND this Compendium. I own the entire series so far, three times.
