It’s easy to recognize the countless stories that still haven’t been told about our Black heroes, heroines and everyday people, especially during #BlackHistoryMonth. From #AssataShakur to #MichelleObama, #ShadowAndAct has curated a list of eight Black historical figures who deserve their own biopic and the actors who should play them. ✊🏾 Link in bio. #emayatzy #blackheroes #storytelling #untold #biopic #blackhistory #blacktalent.

✨ What’s the best nonfiction book you’ve read recently? 📖 My most recent read, Unapologetic: A Black, Queer, and Feminist Mandate for Radical Movements by Charlene Carruthers, was AMAZING 🙌🏾

📚 This is a day late, but I wanted to post the #nonfiction edition of my #backlist for the #onceyougoblackout challenge hosted by @reggiereads @absorbedinpages @lowelowexxoo @thestackspod @never_withouta_book @exlibrislls and @book_girl_magic. I just started #HowWeGetFree yesterday and it’s incredible so far. 🙌🏾

💫 Have you read any of these? Any suggestions on what I should read next? Also, anyone up for a #buddyread?! 💃 I think I just missed reading Women, Race, & Class with @diverseclassics in January 🙈

February is coming to a close and since I only read library e-books, I don’t really have a formal wrap up to share.

Instead, I thought I’d share my non-fiction #TBR featuring black men and women!

I’ve slowly been making my way through black history in America. I love ideas - collecting them, analyzing them, dissecting them. For those that have been following me for a bit, you know I’m a fan of essays and memoirs. Especially where people have done the work on themselves and are able to intersect their personal experiences with the greater human experience - shed light on their views on humanity, society, culture and country.

That concept influences the books I pick up. Here’s a few that I own along with a quick summary:

JAMES BALDWIN - COLLECTED ESSAYS: this edition is one of the most comprehensive collections of Baldwin’s non-fiction work and includes classics like The Fire Next Time and Notes of a Native Son.

STAMPED FROM THE BEGINNING: THE DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF RACIST IDEAS IN AMERICA: the title says it all. I’ve started this book and depth of research and information Kendi unpacks is stunning.

MALCOM X: A LIFE OF REINVENTION: I read the autobiography and this book is often recommended as a companion piece. @thestackspod has a great review on her page.

WOMEN, RACE & CLASS: released in 1983, this book looks at the women’s liberation movement and how it’s been held back by racist and classist views.

ASSATA - AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY: Black Panther member, Assata Shakur, was put in prison on flimsy evidence for a role in a murder. She escaped prison and was given asylum in Cuba. This is her story.

MALCOLM X SPEAKS: Collection of major speeches Malcolm X gave in the months prior to his assassination. His ideas on race changed dramatically in the last couple years of his life, and this collection shares where he was at with that.

Hoping I can get through half of this in 2019! What are some other books you’d add to this list? Any on your TBR? Let me know your thoughts!.

Around every Marcus Mosiah Garvey is a James Wormley Jones (FBI Agent)

Among every Bobby Seale and Huey P Newton is a William O'neal (FBI Agent)

Within every black community, organization and movement is a Darthard Perry (FBI Agent)

You have to cut the grass to see the snakes, but those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat it💯💯💯.

RIP to Baba Sebi, the best to ever do this health shxt on a worldly scale. Usha Village @ushavillagecellfoodbydrsebi is still well and thriving for healing of all🙏🏿 He left his village in his two Daughter’s(Saama and Taiwa)hands. Despite the naysayers and ppl trying to discredit his work and everything he left behind, the ppl to ask questions also is who he left his legacy too not only those who started with him (not to discredit any of the work other ppl put in)🤐. Baba Sebi gave us the BLUEPRINT to take care of ourselves and cure any disease. Ppl will find any excuse to eat and consume bs, and stay loyal to big pharma and them Drs who only perpetuate the cycle of sickness, dis-ease, and chaos in the lives of humanity. Real health is in positive lifestyle (in all areas), positive energy, and ascension of higher self aka WHOLISTIC HEALTH. Don’t be bamboozled and don’t fall for the games and manipulations of profit, greed, and evilness #UnplugTheMatrix🌍🔌 ~Kojo Sankofa~
“You can start out with 100 pennies and in the end trade it in for a dollar bill, 4 quarters, 10 dimes, or 20 nickels. The choice is up to you as to which amount is valuable. Sometimes theres power in less, and as always quality and loyalty over quantity.” #TrillSankofa😤
