#marchmeetthemaker Day 18 - Mistakes/lessons learned. Well where do I start... OH! We're talking about pottery here, well that narrows it down 😂
I think almost everything you do in ceramics is the result of a mistake you made, and the lessons you learn may be painful and costly, but in the end you rise a better artist/crafter/etc. .
The past 7 years that I've been playing with ceramics has been a learning curve, and it's only been in the past 7 months or so that I feel I've finally got a grip on what I'm doing. .
One of the hardest lessons to learn was that not everything is going to turn out the way you expect, and you're going to end up frustrated and smashing many sub quality pieces. You have to learn to let go. Once you do, you'll see your work in a whole new light and be more open to nipping potential mistakes in the bud before wasting valuable time and resources. .
*I've learned to not fiddle with a piece that simply isn't working - recycle it while it still can be.
. *If my throwing game is off, I take a break to clear my head or work on something else. .
*Just cause a piece is bisqued doesn't mean it has to be glazed. .
*Just cause a piece is glazed doesn't mean it has to be saved. .
* Not every day has to be a work work work productive day- you're allowed to take breaks and do nothing. .
* Social media is not real life. You don't have to post every day to be a relevant artist/human being. Your following/popularity on IG doesn't define your worth. 😘
What lessons have you learned?
I’ve got a love/hate relationship over here. .⠀
It’s a powerful tool to build relationships but can also be a powerful weapon in destructing our own self worth and confidence. I was just recently listening to a podcast with my girl Rach, @rachelhollis , and she interviewed creative director Mika May. She pushes herself each day to create before consuming. ⠀
Create before consuming.⠀
I absolutely love this approach and will be something I stand by moving forward. We are all created for purpose and social media is an incredible microphone to showcase our mission. There is value in this form of communication, and it’s up to us to use it to the best intent. ⠀
Just a new perspective for a new day. 🌼
You guys I am SHOOK.
A month ago I would not have imagined the amount of growth and expansion I’ve experienced personally and within my business.
I’m learning to take control of my life and let go of expectations of others around me.
I felt an inner calling for change. I was tired of feeling overwhelmed by life.
All of the traumas and hardships I’ve faced seems unrepairable at times.
The panic attacks, uncontrollable sobbing on the bathroom floor, reoccurring nightmares, the list goes on.
I chose to take a chance on myself and enrolled in @madisonhedlund ’s Awaken Her Soul Program.
There is immense work to still be done over the next few months but GIRL, am I ready for what will unfold.
I don’t know about you but I’m into trusting that my heart already has the answers. No more outside validation!
I AM ENOUGH.
And friends, so are you.
