What keeps me humble? The fact that I promised God I’d never forget where I come from 🙏🏽— real talk! I almost cried when I came across the old pic because I can remember being traumatized + bullied as a child and depressed as a teen for my severe eczema flare ups and breakouts. Mainly because people would stigmatize people with eczema because they thought it was contagious and nasty looking. Y’all back in the 90s there WAS NOT a lot of medicines out that would heal and treat my severe, incurable, skin condition— no one was proud to say they had eczema cause you’d get picked on 😒 With that, a lot of people didn’t understand that eczema is hereditary and it’s a REAL SKIN disease that is very hard to deal with when its flared up— so you have to constantly consider what you eat, wear, bathe with, and most importantly THINK! Yes, I say THINK because I found that my eczema flared up the most when I was STRESSED out about things I couldn’t control— like back in Sept and to add I was transitioning from a meat lover to vegan so my skin negatively reacted while I detoxed. Y’all wanna know when my skin REALLY STAYED CLEAR.. when I stopped WORRYING and began to LIVE.. LOVE YOU... ALLL OF YOU! yes a diet is good but I am posting this to encourage some girl that is struggling with her self esteem that you are beautiful with your scars and breakouts— and I know it doesn’t help when people STARE in your face when you already insecure— trust me it hurts (I cried and hide my scars many nights and days). This post is to uplift the girls who may still be looking for that remedy and self esteem to feel free— stay strong! We as a society need to embrace the good and the bad— I’ve grown to love myself regardless and I found I was most free when I learned to LOVE myself inside— not my physical appearance. YOU ARE NOT UGLY, you are NOT UNLOVABLE, you are SPECIAL 💕🌱 ...
@kelzbrown • Pennsylvania College of Optometry • 4th Year Optometry Student "I can remember expressing my interest in becoming an optometrist to a former co-worker. I overheard her tell someone “I don’t see too many black optometrists, is she sure she wants to do that?” Now, let’s fast forward to today, I am in my fourth and final year of optometry school where I’ll get a chance to showcase all I’ve learned in a full year of rotations. This journey has not been easy of course but undoubtedly worth it. I am not only representing optometry, but I am an example of what my coworker didn’t see: a black optometrist. Representation matters.
I am extremely proud of myself because I once struggled with self-doubt. Self-doubt can be detrimental. It can be the voice in your head that keeps you from achieving your dreams. I found myself in a constant state of hesitancy, battling whether I felt I would succeed or fail in my journey. It wasn’t until I took a moment to re-evaluate my obstacles that I realized my one major roadblock was none other than myself. Luckily, I have been surrounded by supportive friends and family that have encouraged me throughout this quest. Always remember: there will be those who don’t believe in your abilities and those who judge you without knowing your story. You cannot let the negative opinions of others lead your life. Silence the doubt and amplify the messages of self belief! Only in the presence of a challenge will you truly know what you’re capable of." The naysayers will always be there, remember to ALWAYS tune them out!🔕 #MoorMelanin : Follow her to learn more about her Youtube page

Some of the best photos are the ones that weren’t supposed to make the cut.. it’s always cool to look back at moments and reflect on the old memories and feelings they bring.. although very happy in the photo I can’t help but think there’s no better feeling than realizing you no longer live in the same box that you used to. Growth is such a beautiful thing and to know that you can literally wake up and not be the same person you once were is a powerful thing✨✨ Any who.. felt cute, might post another throwback, idk 😭 ...
