Happy Saturday everyone! I’m having some trouble with my Instagram app. It’s not letting me comment?? So I’m just quickly dropping by to share my amazing vegan lemon essential oil tart again mostly because I’m obsessed with these photos (and it tastes like a 🍋🍋lolly) The recipe for this is on the blog under deserts. Apologies if I can’t get back to your comments hopefully it will all sort out soon. Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend 💛💛💛

Repost from @healinglemon What a different 8 months make!
.
BEFORE:
▪️1 day post op from removing a tumor from my spine
▪️In the ICU from my artery tearing open and bleeding too much. Also monitoring an aneurism
▪️Waiting to find out if I had cancer (thank goodness it was benign)
▪️A week since being “diagnosed” with celiac disease
▪️A few weeks diagnosed with food allergies to gluten, dairy, soy, corn, nuts, sesame, eggs & shellfish
▪️Constant burning nerve pain throughout my body
▪️Unbearable stomach pain every time I ate
▪️Malabsorption of vitamins (iron and b12)
▪️Histamine/chemical reactions to almost everything I ate or drank and even to IV vitamins
▪️Temporary paralysis in my right arm and hand from surgery lasting 6+ weeks
▪️Vertigo every time I moved my head or layed down
▪️Horrible brain fog
▪️Lifelong migraines became more frequent
▪️Chronic sinus issues worsened
▪️Insomnia
▪️Anxiety and depression (I thought I was dying and was scared to eat)
▪️Barely able to take care of myself never mind my 3 month and 3 year old
▪️Inflammation and joint pain everywhere
▪️Daily visual disturbances - seeing shapes, floaters, rainbows, distorted and blurry vision
▪️Chronic dry eye
▪️Daily endometriosis pain
▪️Permanently swollen lymph nodes in my neck
▪️Tinnitus
▪️Exclusively nursing my baby who was allergic to formula
▪️Discovered white lesions all over my brain that Doctors thought could be MS
.
I could go on for hours. It was the worst I’ve ever felt in my life. I prayed for it to be 6 months down the road in hopes I would be feeling better. I didn’t know how I could possibly go on like that every day
.
BEFORE TREATMENT:
❌Following a paleo /AIP diet
❌No nightshades and a fruit fear especially to high histamine foods
❌Multiple doctors appointments every week
❌Weekly B12 injections
❌Bi-weekly IV bags
❌Weekly bloodwork
❌Weekly acupuncture/cupping
❌Bi-weekly imaging
❌Thousands $ spent on doctors, testing and supplements
❌Was told to accept I could feel like this for the rest of my life
❌ZERO ANSWERS
.

Kale has a rep for not being tasty unless doused in seasoning but there is a lot of nutrients packed into kale leaves.

1 cup of raw kale carries more than the daily recommended dose of Vitamin C, A and K.

Kale has immunity supporting properties as it is full of antioxidants. Some sources state that it can even lower blood pressure, support heart health and help prevent cancer.

I have to admit, I'm not fond of the taste of kale in a salad either but a reasonable amount goes down just fine in a delicious fruit smoothie 🥬🥬🥬 #happyhealing .

Taking a moment to purge and organize my life as suggested by @selfdevelopment2019.
.
.
I haven’t used “shakes” since 2017, but for some reason we still have #shakeology in our cabinet.
.
.
Before I learned to pay attention to nutrition labels, I would jump to the #beachbody meal plans, supplements, shakes etc. .
.
I spent A LOT of money, when the best results I’ve ever had in my life cost me absolutely nothing!
.
.
Let’s look at the label. One scoop contains 7 grams of added sugars. Have two shakes a day and this is 14 grams of added sugar before accounting for any other sugar in your diet.
.
.
Keep in mind this is if you ONLY use one scoop per 8-12 Oz of water. Many people use more than the recommended serving size.
.
.
While I love #BeachBodyOnDemand work outs, I would caution participants AGAINST falling into the trap of spending your money on their supplements. Also, since I believe in the science of #intermittentfasting, I pretty much disagree with the eating every two to three hours (or 6 small meals a day).
.
.
Aim for a balanced diet:
1️⃣Vegetables,
2️⃣CLEAN meats: -wild caught NOT FARMED RAISED fish, such as salmon -Grassfed/grass finished meats, from a local farmer if possible (if not, @butcher_box will ship quality meat to your home for an affordable price) -Poultry WITHOUT antibiotics and allowed to forage, not grain fed.
3️⃣Fruits: Enjoy them as a desert, as nature’s original candy
4️⃣Low in processed foods: YES, your protein shake is a processed food.
.
.
For one month, save the money spent on various products designed to optimize performance and incorporate more, real food into your diet. See how you feel!
.
.
Has anyone else decreased their dependence on protein shakes or other non essential supplements? Comment or tag a friend below!.

Are you carb phobic?! 😨
.
A lot of the women I work with or see on social media these days are restricting carbohydrates unnecessarily, often driving symptoms of hormone imbalance 👎🏼
.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of high fat, low carb diets in certain situations, especially for those with insulin resistance, gut infections and mental health issues. However, as we tend to do with everything in the health world, we are starting to take things too far and are demonising carbs 🤦🏻‍♀️
.
Everyone’s requirements are different, depending on activity levels, insulin sensitivity and current hormonal status, but we should ALL be focusing on the carbohydrates from whole, real foods like a wide range vegetables, starches like potatoes, beetroot, squash, quinoa, buckwheat and legumes 🌿
.
If you KNOW you are dealing with insulin resistance then you MAY need to really restrict your carbohydrate consumption (or even go on a short term ketogenic diet!) as a way to get your insulin and blood glucose levels under control 🍠🍎🌽🥔
.
You can also help your body tolerate them better by using food as medicine! Shot down 1 tbsp of raw apple cider vinegar in water before meals, ditch the inflammatory oils and add cinnamon to your food regularly. These are 3️⃣ simple ways to improve insulin sensitivity! 👍🏼
.
Some signs that you may not be eating enough carbohydrates include hair loss, anxiety, insomnia, waking up frequently during the night, constantly thinking about food, sugar cravings, acne, mood swings, changes to your menstrual cycle, worse PMS and poor recovery from exercise 😔
.
If you aren’t sure whether you are dealing with insulin resistance or want help finding your personal carbohydrate ‘sweet spot’, I recommend you get tests such as fasting glucose, HBA1C and fasting insulin from your GP or purchase a glucometer to monitor your blood sugar levels 1 and 2 hours after eating 🍽
.
.
.
