Do you like Age of Steam? Thoughts? Want to play? 🚂 💗 It’s no secret that Age of Steam is my favorite game, and I am always looking for more local people passionate to play! I would love to start a monthly Age of Steam meet up. I don’t have the people or skills to do that, so finding people to play is the most exciting thing to me! I felt so lucky to meet Day from @orangecountyboardgamers at Stratigicon. We played Age of Steam!!!! I got to play California Gold Rush for the first time! Cannot wait to play AOS with you again Day! Played with @orangecountyboardgamers @boardgamingblues @chad_huck at @stratcon Thanks for bringing this map Day. It was Chad’s first play, and we all enjoyed the map. As always, thanks for playing Ben. #ageofsteam #boardgames.

Played some #BrassBirmingham by #MartinWallace #GavanBrown #MattTolman @roxleygames & loved every live long minute of it. #railroadpun
Let's be honest, #Brass had me at the #historical theme. There's nothing I love more. Here, Martin Wallace is bringing us back to the #IndustrialRevolution between 1770-1870 so we can develop industries & networks according to the demands of the market. Variable market tile placements require different strategies each time you replay Brass.
Yet you'll always be building canals first, following the available canal routes on the map of the board, before moving on to the era of rails when all of your canals are removed along with first series industry tiles and you need to start again to rebuild networks and industry. The strategic planning involved here is intense and ridiculously fun to figure out. It also bleeds into player interaction as others might take the goods you need or push up costs in the Market on their moves. Thus, planning exact turns won't work. You need back up plans and margins for error which is easier said than done in this game of tight resources & card based actions.
My strategy was to take loans early when it didn't impact my place on the income track as heftily & to make sure I had enough money before the end of the loans period at End Game. See: Plan well & it takes money to make money.
There is some randomness involved in that you can't plan for the actions of other players but you can surmise pretty well. And when you don't, their move may actually help you as often as it hurts so it doesn't feel less strategic for it. I also went for the high VP value industry tiles by Developing industries to the higher levels but not necessarily the highest ones. Again, so much strategy here. And in the end, my plan came together perfectly, right down to the last move. I flew past the competition for the win & it was made more sweet by all the planning that had to come together for that to happen.
I love a good Martin Wallace game & this economic game sequel to his 2007 masterpiece is no exception. So glad I backed it on #Kickstarter & can't wait to receive my copy. I want to play again! Coal stained hands & all🚢🚂.

First impression of „Wildlands“: I had high hopes for this beautiful looking skirmish game by Martin Wallace. The concept of the game sounded really interesting and the components certainly looked nice. In the end „Wildlands“ fell flat for me, mainly because the elaborate hand management action selection mechanism and the amount of thoughts you had to put into using your cards the most efficient way felt like way too much work for what you’re actually doing in the game, running around to kill other characters and pick up crystals. In a weird way „Wildlands“ felt unnecessarily complicated and way to simple at the same time. #wildlands #martinwallace #ospreygames #brettspiele #boardgame #boardgames #boardgamephotography.

What do you want to play from this shelf? When you look at this shelfie, does one game stand out?! WILDLANDS: THE UNQUIET DEAD 💀 What's your favourite game expansion?
🦉🧙‍♂️🛠👹🎃
Wildlands (2-4 players/ 30-60 mins) is a simple to learn, yet tactically deep combat game about a lawless fantasy world and those within it.
🎃🦉🛠🧙‍♂️👹
Designed by the award winning Martin Wallace this was created as an accessible miniatures game.
In it you each control a party of 5 characters. They largely start off hidden and will be revealed during the rounds that play out.
Players can win by collecting the gems (shards) on the map or by eliminating other players characters.
This is a game about timing your reveals, controlling areas of the map and outsmarting your opponents.
All actions are based around a deck of cards, some of which apply to certain characters such as ranged combat so you’ll need to work with what you’re holding each turn.
🎃🦉🛠🧙‍♂️👹
Thanks to @ospreygames for this copy and who I’ve been doing some product photography for..

I played #martinwallace #discworld
#ankhmorpork a couple of years ago and became fascinated by its mechanics. As I discovered that the game was OOP and the license had been lost due to the death of #terrypratchett i tried to get a copy as soon ard possible. I managed to get one in English and I'm happy to have done so. I played this game a couple of times this year, especially at the #spielezentrumherne with some friends.
In discworld ankh-morpork different factions are trying to take control of the city. Each player draws a secret personality card with specific victory conditions, which means that you're not sure exactly what the other players need to do in order to win. This is great and you need to bluff a lot to be able to win. I haven't seen other games with this element.
The action takes place on a map of the city of Ankh-Morpork, with players trying to place their minions and buildings by playing cards. The rules are very simple: Play a card and do what it says. Most cards have more than one action on them, allowing you to play more cards in your turn.

The game ends when one of the players has fulfilled the victory conditions of his character. These are as different as controlling a determined number of districts, having infiltrated most of them, having collected a considerable sum of money, or simply waiting till there's no card left to draw.
This has been game number 95 of my #2018challenge #100gamesinoneyear. 👥 2-4 players ⏰ 60 minutes
Personal rating (⚀-⚅): ⚄

Having some friends over for dinner this weekend, so we had to get all the games into the Kallax, no more stragglers hanging out on the coffee table. There is still a little room, but it’s probably time for a second Kallax. 😃 #boardgames #ikea #shelfie #collection #bgg.

Two days of #boardgames in a row with the #SocalWargamers at @gameempire_la in Pasadena
Saturday had a 6-player game of Here I Stand and Cataclysm by @gmtgames
Newcomer Bruce got an well deserved auto win with the last card play of turn 5 as the Ottomans in HIS. Bob had a good early start in Cataclysm, but Eric was ultimately the winner.
@mankelor and Patricia played This Guilty Land by #hollandspiele.
Sunday had a smaller group with AuZtralia by #MartinWallace as the featured #boardgame. @zeotter got the win by one point over me.
Well done. Thanks for playing..
