5/10 the colour of earth
“My first day of school in Australia when I was nine years old.
I excitedly let go of my father's hand and ran into my new classroom, I halted and looked around the room - everyone was light skinned, blonde, or brunette at the darkest and had colours in their eyes I had never seen before.
The realisation dawned on me that I was the only female in the room with jet black hair, brown skin and deep dark eyes. My stomach felt ill, nobody remotely looked like me and my dark brown skin felt like it was on fire for how different it was. After introducing myself almost immediately I was subjected to my first exposure to stereotypes, as my peers assumed I didn't speak English. They spoke to me in the same tone that parents explain to toddlers what they have done wrong and for the first time in my life I felt the overwhelming realisation of how different I am.” ...
Took this on our road trip to Maine. This was at an Airbnb that felt like the house from The Adams Family. The creeps we're at an all time high. Also the only entertainment supplied was a DVD of the Cars 2 special features, so that hurt me.
